Hydrochloric Acid- Too much or too little?
April 29, 2009
Have you ever heard that heartburn was caused by too much stomach acid? Listen to this helpful trick… If you drink water when you have heartburn and you feel worse, that could mean you don’t have enough stomach acid. The water dilutes the stomach acid, which in turn, makes your problem worse. If you drink water and it actually helps, you may have too much stomach acid. Most of the time, Americans struggle with deficient stomach acid. Then what causes the burning???? In natural medicine there is a theory that the burning is actually caused your Lower Esophageal Valve opening slighty and leaking undigested foods into your esophagus. If you work on your digestion, your acid reflux will go improve and go away. Reduce the amount of liquids you drink with your meal. Try to consume 4 ozs or less of water at room temperature with a meal. Any additional liquids may dilute your stomach acid. Taking antacids may stop the ”symptom” of burning in the esophagus, but it does nothing to solve your sluggish digestion.
